Updating Email Client Settings To Protect Your Information

For your protection, any devices or email client programs using outdated port settings with your Cox Email address are unable to send email until you've updated to secure settings. To resume sending email now, go to myemail.cox.net.

As part of Cox’s ongoing efforts to safeguard your information, we require that all devices using Cox Email accounts to send email use more secure port settings that comply with industry standards. As a result, you may need to update email clients or other devices using your Cox Email account. These devices include, but are not limited to, computers, smartphones, tablets, or security cameras.

Basic Email Client Steps

Use the basic steps below to update your email client settings.

  1. Identify all of the devices in your household used to send email from your Cox Email address.
  2. On each device, open the email client and navigate to Settings.
  3. Locate your current outgoing server settings, then update the following fields as needed.
    • Enable SMTP authentication for outgoing email, and then enter your Cox Email address and password.
    • Enter one of the following port numbers based on encryption type.
      • If the encryption type is SSL or SSL/TLS, then in the port number field, enter 465.
      • If the encryption type is TLS or if your device doesn't support encryption, then in the port number field, enter 587.

Check and update the settings on each of the devices you use with Cox Email. Cox is unable to make these changes for you because the settings are unique to individual devices or email clients.
