Q: Does my new Motorola modem have a warranty?
Cox will cover replacement of the modem because of defect for the first
30 days after purchase. Motorola provides a two (2) year warranty for the
Motorola SURFboard®
SB5101 cable modem.
Q: What is my proof of purchase for any potential warranty service?
The Cox
billing statement is the customer’s receipt.
Q: Will Cox provide service for my purchased modem?
Within the first 30 days, Cox will replace any defective modem. After 30
days, Motorola carries a two (2) year warranty. Cox also has two programs to
cover customer-education, diagnosis of equipment or wiring if the problem is
determined not to be the modem itself. The Cox Service Assurance Plan covers
customer education and diagnosis of situations involving Cox High Speed
Internet and the customer’s inside wiring. Cox Plus covers advanced level
technical support beyond that related to Cox’s High Speed Internet.
Q: If I currently rent a modem from Cox, how can I purchase a modem
and return my rental modem?
The new Motorola cable modem will include instructions on using the
“Online Modem Exchange Process” and the shipment will include a pre-paid UPS
label for returning your rental modem to Cox.
Q: Will I still be able to purchase a cable modem through retail
outlets such as Circuit City & Best Buy if I choose?
Customers are welcome to purchase any DOCSIS compatible modem for use
with their Cox High Speed Internet.
Q: What if the SURFboard SB5101 is available for less elsewhere, such
as Best Buy or online?
Cox provides the courtesy shipping and handling of the modem (most
online retailers do not!) as well as the convenience of interest-free
installment payments. These benefits will certainly outweigh a small
difference in the cost of the modem itself. Cox will not refund a customer
for a modem purchase that has been installed, but will replace any defective
modems within the first 30 days with a like modem.
Q: Will I pay sales tax for my modem purchase?
Yes, you will be charged $79.95 plus sales tax (currently 7.75%), in
three easy payments of $26.65 over your first three month bills.
Q: What if I don’t decide to purchase the Motorola modem until the
Field Service Representative has shown up at my house?
Customers are welcome to purchase the modem from the Field Service
Representative at the time of installation, however to ensure that you will
receive your new modem as quickly as possible the best option is to make
your purchase when speaking to our Customer Service Representative at the
time you place your order for service.
