I heard that cable Internet users share a cable line while DSL provides a dedicated connection to the Internet.
DSL does not provide a dedicated connection to the Internet. The only dedicated part of a DSL network is the line that connects a DSL modem to the telephone company's nearest switch or another piece of equipment located in the DSL customer's neighborhood. If you are a DSL customer, you will share bandwidth with other DSL users on your provider's network long before your traffic reaches the Internet.

If your provider uses PPPoe - as many DSL providers do -  you will not be able to use some Internet applications. Cox High Speed Internet does not use PPPoe.
