Cox CableCARD™ is a new Digital Cable service available from Cox.

A CableCARD™ is a device that consumers who own Digital Cable Ready TVs can receive from Cox that will allow for the descrambling of digital programming. The card is inserted into the Digital Cable Ready TV and thereby allows for the descrambling of the signal.  The card replaces the traditional cable receiver.

The current first generation of CableCARD technology is "one-way," meaning the service cannot support two-way interactivity. As a result of this one-way communication, you will not have access to the Interactive Program Guide, On Demand or impulse Pay-per-view movies. Cox is currently exploring a two-way technology with the Consumer Electronics industry but there is no solution in place yet.

Cox Digital Cable requires rental of a digital receiver & remote ($5.25/mo) and separate subscription to Cox Cable service (starting at $14.99/mo.). Additional charges apply for premium services, Cox HD Service, DVR, extra TVs connected to Digital Cable, PPV events, sports packages and On Demand titles. Televisions and other consumer owned devices equipped with a CableCARD may require a digital set top receiver in order to receive all programming options offered by Cox Digital Cable.
