Solution

Before You Begin 

Cox offers two different DVR experiences – Contour DVR with Whole Home DVR capability and basic, or traditional, single-room DVR. The steps for scheduling, watching, and managing recordings are different depending on which type of DVR you are using. To determine what type of DVR you have, press the GUIDE button on the Cox remote control.

  • If the on-screen guide is primarily blue, and the Contour from Cox logo displays in the bottom left corner, refer to the Contour User Guide.
  • If the on-screen guide has a silver border, follow the steps below for basic DVR.

Recording Shows

Record the show you are watching or viewing in the on-screen guide.
  1. Press REC on the Cox remote control.

    Result: The Record window displays with the show title in the header and Record this show selected. 

  2. Press SELECT on the remote to begin recording.
Record two shows at the same time.
  1. Tune to a channel you want to record, or navigate to the target show in the on-screen guide.
  2. Press REC on the Cox remote control.

    Result: The Record window displays with the show title in the header and Record this show selected. 

  3. Press SELECT on the remote to begin recording.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 above for the other show you want to record.

    Note: When recording two shows at once, you can watch either show, or a previously recorded show. You cannot tune to a third channel or watch On DEMAND programming.
Create a manual recording.
  1. Tune to the channel you want to record, or navigate to it in the on-screen guide.
  2. Press REC on the Cox remote control.

    Result: The Record window displays with the current show title in the header and Record this show selected.

  3. Press the up or down arrow button on the remote to highlight Create a manual recording.
  4. Press SELECT on the remote.

    Result: The Manual Recording window displays with the current show title at the bottom of the window. 

  5. In the Manual Recording window, use the right and left arrows on the remote to move between columns and the up and down arrows to change the following settings in each column.
    • Type - Choose Individual to create a one-time only recording, or Recurring to record for a given time frame on multiple specified days.
    • Channel - Choose the channel from which to record. 
    • Day(s) - Choose the day, for individual recordings, or days, for recurring recordings, on which to record.
    • Start - Choose the start time for the manual recording.
    • End - Choose the end time for the manual recording.
  6. When all settings are correct, press the A button on the remote to confirm the recording.
Record an entire series.
  1. Tune to the channel you want to record, or navigate to it in the on-screen guide.
  2. Press REC on the Cox remote control.

    Result: The Record window displays with the current show title in the header and Record this show selected.

  3. Press the up or down arrow button on the remote to highlight Record entire series.
  4. Press SELECT on the remote.

    Result: The Series Recording window displays with the current show title in the header.

  5. In the Series Recording window use the up and down arrows on the remote to move between rows and the left and right arrows to change the following settings in each row.
    • Episodes to record - Choose to record first-run only or first-run and repeats
    • Channels - Choose to record only from the currently selected channel, or any channel.
    • Airtimes - Choose to record only at the currently selected time, or any time the show airs.
    • Save - Choose whether to save the recordings until space is needed, or until you manually erase them from the DVR.
    • Episodes to Keep - Choose to keep all recordings, or up to the five most recent.
    • Start time - Choose to start the recordings up to 10 minutes early or late.
    • End time - Choose to end the recordings up to 10 minutes early, or 1-5, 15, or 30 minutes, or 1-3 hours late.
  6. When all settings are correct, press the A button on the remote to confirm the recording.
Stop the current recording.
  1. Tune to the channel you are recording, or, press the DVR LIST button on the Cox remote control, then use the up and down arrow buttons to highlight the current recording.
  2. Press the STOP button.

    Result: The Stop Recording window displays with Stop now selected. 

  3. Using the up or down arrow on the remote, select Stop now, Do not stop now, or Play again from beginning
  4. Press the SELECT button to confirm your choice.

Watching Recorded Shows 

  1. Press the DVR LIST button on the Cox remote control.
  2. Use the up or down arrow buttons to find and highlight the recorded show you want to watch.
  3. Press the PLAY button.

Managing Recorded Shows 

  1. Press the DVR LIST button on the Cox remote control.
  2. Use the up and down arrow buttons to find the recorded show you want to manage.
  3. Press the SELECT button.

    Result: The Actions window displays. Select one of the following actions for additional steps.

Erase a recorded show.
  1. From the Actions window, use the up and down arrows on the remote to highlight Erase, then press SELECT.

    Result: A confirmation window displays.

  2. Press the A button on the remote to confirm that you want to erase the recording.
Change for how long a recording is saved.
  1. From the Actions window, use the up and down arrows on the remote to highlight one of the following options, then press SELECT.
    • Keep longer - Use the up and down arrows to move the show higher or lower in the list. When recording space is needed on the DVR, shows lower on the list will be erased first.
    • Save until manually erased - A silver token displays next to the show title in the DVR List. This show will not be erased by the DVR if space is needed for future recordings.
