What is Secondary Audio Program (SAP)?

SAP is a secondary audio stream that a broadcaster may choose to transmit for television programs. 

  • This stream may include an audio track in another language (such as French or Spanish), and/or descriptive narration for the visually-impaired. 
  • For more information about video narration, see the article About Video Description Service
  • When SAP is available for a show, the program description in the Program Guide will display the SAP icon.

Enabling / Disabling SAP on  the Receiver

Enable or disable SAP on your receiver by following the steps below.

Do not turn on SAP in your TV menu. Only the SAP settings for the receiver should be turned on.

  1. Press the Settings button your remote control.
  2. Using the arrow buttons, highlight the Audio & Video.
  3. Press the Select button.

  2. Press the Select button.

  2. Press the Select button.

Enabling SAP
  1. Using the arrow buttons, highlight the Alternate (SAP) option.
  2. Press Select, then press Exit.
     
    Result: The secondary audio track will play for designated programs.

If you turn on the SAP setting, but the program does not carry a second audio track, then you may not hear any audio at all. Simply turn off SAP to restore the original audio.

Disabling SAP
  1. Using the arrow buttons, highlight the Primary option.
  2. Press Select, then press Exit.
     
    Result: The primary audio track will play for designated programs.

 

Enabling / Disabling SAP Using the Shortcut Menu

Enable or disable SAP using the shortcut on your receiver by following the steps below.

Press the down arrow button your remote control.


Result: The Closed Captioning and SAP shortcut menu displays at the bottom of the screen.

Using the up and down arrows, highlight either the SAP option or the Closed Captioning option.

Press the Select button to either turn the feature on or off.
