Email Me When a Voice Mail Arrives

Want to know when a voice mail arrives on your home phone when you are away? Complete these steps to get an email with the voice message attached.


  1. Go to the Phone Tools website: http://phonetools.cox.com.
  2. Enter your User ID and Password, then click Sign In.

    Note: If you haven't already created a User ID and Password, click No Account? Register Now! and enter your account number and PIN which are located on your bill.

Click to expand the Settings menu and ensure that Voice Mail is turned On.

Note: Readable Voice Mail must be turned on to use Voice Mail Notification.


If Voice Mail is already turned on, click Voice Mail Notification to expand the menu. 

If Voice Mail is not turned on, click the On button. Once Voice Mail Notification is turned on, the Voice Mail Notification menu expands. 


Adding a new email address
  1. Click Add.
  2. Enter the new Email Address.

    Note: You can add up to five email addresses.


Updating an existing addressClick into the specific email address field that you would like to update and enter the updated email address.


From the Choose Notification Method drop down menu, select if you would like to send an Audio Message, Transcript, or Both to the email address. 

If you select...The voice mail message...
AudioIs attached in .wav  format. Click the .wav file to launch the audio player on your computer and listen to the voice mail.
TextIs transcribed into text.
BothWill include a .wav format audio message and a transcribed text of the voice mail.

Click Save.
