PC HealthCheck provides a suite of software tools that Cox High Speed Internet customers can use to help identify problems related to the security, health, and performance of their personal computers. In addition to identifying problems and recommending solutions, PC HealthCheck provides customers with support options through Cox Technical Solutions. What Your PC HealthCheck Scan Means

 

The security, performance, and health scans consist of several benchmarked components critical to helping your PC run more efficiently. Use the tables below to view the specific security, performance, and health check components scanned during a PC Check.

 

PC Check Security Scan

 

The Cox PC HealthCheck Security scan checks for the existence and/or status of software components critical to keeping your PC safe. The table below identifies and describes each software component the application scans. 

 

Security Check-Up ComponentsDescription
Anti-Virus Software CheckChecks for the existence of up to date and properly running anti-virus software. If no anti-virus software is detected or if the software is out of date, the results will display on the Results and Recommendation screen.
Anti-Spyware Software CheckChecks for the existence of up to date and properly running anti-spyware software. If no anti-spyware software is detected or if the software is out of date, the results will display on the Results and Recommendation screen.
Scan for Active MalwareChecks for and identifies a list of common malware programs and recommends a solution. If any issues are found, the results will display on the Results and Recommendation screen.
Firewall CheckVerifies that your firewall is up-to-date and operating properly. If the firewall is off, the result will display on the Results and Recommendations screen.
Backup Client CheckChecks for the existence of back up software and if it is up-to-date. If no backup software is detected or if it is out of date, the results will display on the Results and Recommendations screen.
Windows Update CheckChecks for the latest Microsoft Windows updates including service packs and security patches. If the scan detects any issues with your Windows Operating System, service packs or security patches the results will display on the Results and Recommendations screen.
Wi-Fi Security CheckChecks for the existence of a wireless network connection and if the connection is secure. If any issues are found with your Wi-Fi Security, the results will display on the Results and Recommendations screen.

PC Check Performance Scan

 

The Cox PC HealthCheck Performance scan checks for the status of system components critical to keeping your PC running well. The table below identifies and describes each system component the application scans.  

 

Performance Check-UpDescription
CPU utilization CheckChecks the PC’s Central Processing Unit (CPU) to ensure it is running efficiently. If the scan detects any issues with your PC’s CPU, the results will display on the Results and Recommendation screen.
Free Memory CheckChecks to see if enough memory is available to meet the demands placed on the PC. If the scan detects any issues with your PC’s memory, the results will display on the Results and Recommendation screen.
Disk FragmentationChecks the physical condition of your PC’s hard disk.  If the scan detects any issues with your hard disk, the results will display on the Results and Recommendation screen.
Running Processes CheckChecks the number application and system processes running on your PC and determines if all of them are necessary. If the scan detects any issues with your application and/or system processes, the results will display on the Results and Recommendation screen.
Network Performance CheckChecks upload and download speeds for of your network connection. If scan detects any issues with your network connection, the results will display on the Results and Recommendations screen.

PC Check Health Scan

 

The Cox PC HealthCheck Health scan checks for the status of your hard disk, free disk space and if any critical issues have been saved to your system log file. The table below identifies and describes each disk component the application scans.  

 

Health Check-UpDescription
Disk CheckThe disk check performs an industry standard check to see if your hard disk is functioning properly. If the scan detects any issues with your hard disks, the results will display on the Results and Recommendations screen.
Free Space CheckChecks to determines whether you have enough free space on your hard disk. If the scan detects any issues with your disk free space, the results will display on the Results and Recommendations screen.
Critical Issues CheckChecks to see if any critical events have been stored in your system's event log. If the scan detects any issues with stored in your system event log, the results will display on the Results and Recommendation screen.

Perform a PC Check

You can run PC Check at any time to ensure that your anti-virus, anti -spyware, and backup service packages are up-to-date.

Note: Running PC Check does not require a subscription to Cox Technical Solutions.

From the Cox PC HealthCheck Dashboard located on your desktop click the PC Check icon.

Result: The Cox PC HealthCheck page displays.

Click the Run Scans button.

 

Note: If the Set Network Type pop-up displays, check the Remember my selection and don’t show me again box and click the OK button. 

 

Result: PC Check completes a security, performance, and health scan on your system and displays the results and recommended solutions on Results and Recommendations screen.

The table below provides the available options for viewing the PC Check scan results recommended solutions.

 

If...Then...
You want to view the results of a specific scan including identified software,Click the inverted triangle next to the Security Results, Performance Results, or Health Results menu.
You want to view a summary scan results by component,Click the Security, Performance, or Health icons located on the right hand side of the screen.
You want to view a full report an all system issues,

Click the View Report link located on the bottom left of the screen.

 

Use this report when contacting Cox Tech Solutions for assistance.

 

If you want to run your scans again,Click the Back to Scan button.

Once you have viewed your security, performance, and health scan results, you can view available solutions by clicking the ‘Click Here to View Your Recommended Solution’ button.

Use the phone number provided, to contact Cox Tech Solutions for assistance with any PC security, performance, or health issues found during the PC Check.

Important: Cox Tech Solutions is a premium service that requires a paid subscription. You will have to sign up for this premium service before the technician can begin the troubleshooting process.
