This procedure describes how to create a workgroup in Windows XP.
As of April 9, 2014, Microsoft no longer supports Windows XP. Cox will only provide limited support of Windows XP that includes network connectivity and basic settings. - DO NOT change a DOMAIN to a WORKGROUP. Changing to Workgroup will require possession of an administrator password to log onto the PC. The customer may not have or remember this password.
- Windows may need to install drivers during this procedure. Ensure that the customer has his or her Windows and printer driver disks before proceeding.
From the Computer Name Changes dialog box, within the Computer Name text box, enter a computer name. Within the Workgroup text box, enter the name of the workgroup.
- The Computer Name for each workstation on the network must be unique.
- The Workgroup for all workstations on the network must be the same.
From the System Properties dialog box, within the Computer description text box, enter a description for the computer. Click OK.
