Summary

Learn how to manage an Authorized User in My Account.

Solution

Not all User IDs created for an account can perform the same functions by default. Refer to Understanding Digital Identities and Account Types for more information.

If you don't have any Authorized Users on your account, see Add an Authorized User to My Account.
 

Authorized User in My Account are for online access only. Customers who contact Cox by phone to discuss account issues cannot use their Cox Digital Identity as a form of identification.

Modifying Authorized User Settings as an Account Holder

Account Holders can modify Authorized User information by using the steps below.

In a web browser, go to www.cox.com.

Sign in to My Account with your primary User ID and Password.
 

You must log in as the primary Account Holder to create or modify an Authorized User.

From the My Account Overview window, click My Profile.
 

Result: The My Account Profile & Settings window displays.

Under My Account Profile & Settings, click Edit.

Select an Authorized User ID and click Modify.

Result: The Modify Authorized User window displays.

  1. You can edit any of the following fields.
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • User ID Nickname
    • Password
    • Billing and Payment Access

      Note: Place a check in the Billing and Payment Access box to grant an Authorized User the same access to the account billing and payment areas as the Account Holder. For more information, see Understanding Digital Identities and Account Types.
  2. Click the Submit button.

Result: A confirmation window displays the changes and a confirmation email or letter is sent.

Click Continue.
 

Result: The Authorized Users window is displayed with the new user added.

Modifying Settings as an Authorized User

Authorized Users can modify their passwords and other account information by using the steps below.

In a web browser, go to www.cox.com.

Click on the My Account tab.

Enter your authorized User ID and Password, then click Sign In.

From the My Account Overview window, click Manage Profile.

Result: The My Account Profile & Settings window displays.

You can edit any of the following fields by clicking Edit.

  • Nickname
  • Password
  • Security Questions
Changing the Nickname

To change the Authorized User ID nickname, use these steps.


  1. Enter the new name for the identity.
  2. Add a nickname for this identity.

    Note: This is optional.
     
  3. Click the Continue button.

    Result: A confirmation window displays the changes and a confirmation email or letter is sent.
Changing the Password

To change the Authorized User ID password, use these steps.


  1. Enter the current password.
  2. Enter and reenter a new password.

    Note: A password meter shows the new password strength.
     
  3. Click the Continue button.

    Result: A confirmation window displays the changes and a confirmation email or letter is sent.
Changing the Security Questions

To change the Authorized User ID security questions, use these steps.


  1. Click Modify.

    Note: Register may display instead of Modify if this is the first time the user is accessing this area.
     
  2. Under Modify Your Profile, complete the following fields.
    • Secret Question
    • Secret Answer
    • Alternate Email and Re-enter Alternate Email

      Note: Alternate Email and Re-enter Alternate Email may already display an email address. If a user is entering an alternate email address for the first time, an email with a validation link sends after clicking Submit. The validation link must be clicked in order to complete the registration.
       
  1. Click the Submit button.

    Result: A confirmation window displays the changes and a confirmation email or letter is sent.
