Learn more about detecting the Flashback Trojan virus, a form of malware that may be stealing information from your Mac computer.
Cox Communications is dedicated to protecting the Internet experience of our customers. We notify customers when their computer systems may be infected with a virus or other malicious software. Flashback is a Trojan horse virus that steals confidential information from the Mac computers it compromises.
Flashback Trojan masquerades as an Adobe Flash Player plug-in installer but also takes advantage of Java. Visiting a website containing Flashback on an Apple OS X system that has Java installed can result in the malware infecting your computer in the following ways.
- The malware requests an administrator password to install a code package in the Applications folder of your Mac.
Important: Do not provide your administrator password.
- The malware installs in user accounts. After installing, the Flashback injects code into your Web browsers and other applications to steal passwords and other personal information.
This malicious software has many forms and versions. While no utility can always detect and remove all versions from all operating systems, Cox recommends using the following information to learn more about the issue and to help detect the Flashback Trojan malware.
