PUBLIC ACCESS FAQ
WHAT IS PUBLIC
ACCESS?
-
Public Access
is cable television programming produced by local citizens who
live within the Cox Communications service area.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
-
Playing back
your program is free.
-
If you need to
use public access equipment to produce your program you will
need to attend one or more workshops.
-
There are fees
for the workshops and they are:
$50.00 for the studio workshop
$25.00 for the edit workshop
$25.00 for the portable camera workshop
-
After you have
successfully completed the necessary workshop(s) uses of
equipment is free however you will need a deposit of $510.00 for
portable camera use.
HOW LONG ARE PUBIC
ACCESS WORKSHOPS AND WHAT WILL I LEARN?

All workshops
are two hours.

Individuals
will learn the basic skills need to operate public access
equipment.
HOW LONG CAN
PROGRAMS BE?
-
Regular on
going programs must be 30 minutes or 60 minutes. Thirty minute
programs play weekly with one repeat per show and sixty minute
programs play bi-weekly.
HOW DO I GET A
REGULAR TIMESLOT?
-
Once you have
completed two programs we identify an available time and day. To
maintain the timeslot you must submit your program one week
before its play date.
CAN I HAVE
COMMERCIALS IN MY PUBLIC ACCESS PROGRAM?
-
Commercial
advertisements, selling and political endorsements are
prohibited from public access programming.
WHAT IS THE FIRST
STEP I NEED TO TAKE TO GET STARTED IN PUBLIC ACCESS?

Reading and understanding our guidelines is the first step. You
can obtain public access guidelines by contacting our office at
933-2323.
WHERE IS PUBLIC
ACCESS LOCATED?
-
11505 West Dodge Road
on the east side of the building, there is a sign above our
entrance.
WHAT DO I DO IF I
NEED TO DROP SOMETHING IMPORTANT OFF AND I CAN NOT GET IN THE PUBLIC
ACCESS AREA?
-
There is a
silver mail slot located on the right side of the public access
entrance that is used for dropping off public access program
material and documents.

HOW DO I CONTACT A
PUBLIC ACCESS PRODUCER/SHOW?

Leave your
contact information and we will forward it to the producer.

You can also
watch the program and note any contact information that may be
posted throughout the program.

HOW DO I
RECIEVE A COPY OF A PUBLIC ACCESS PROGRAM?

We do not
provide copies of public access programs. Individuals can,
however, contact public access producers for availability of
program copies.
WHAT TYPES OF
ACCESS CHANNELS ARE ON COX?
- Public
Access channel 109 plays in Omaha and surrounding cities.
Information can be obtained by calling 933-2323.
- Community
Access channel 22 produces community announcements for more
information call 934-1100 and read HOW PUT AN ANNOUNCEMENT ON
THE COMMUNITY CALENDAR? located below. Community Access is only
available in Omaha.
- Educational
Access channels 17 & 18 are only available in Omaha. Channel18
is where you will find local governmental programming. For more
information, call 554-2516. For copies of local governmental

- Channel 22
in Carter Lake. Information can be obtained by calling 347-6320

HOW DO I RECIEVE A
COPY OF A GOVERNMENT MEETING?
-
Omaha City
Council Meeting video copies are $25.00 per meeting tape is
included, there is a three to four week waiting period. Archive
video copies of Omaha City Council meetings one year or more are
$50.00 per meeting tape. The waiting period is one to two
months. Current Omaha City Council Meetings can also be viewed
online at http://www.ci.omaha.ne.us/departments/city_council/
