Getting Started with Cox High Speed Internet

Getting Started with Internet

Whether you're a first time Netizen ("Internet Citizen") or an experienced power user, Cox High Speed Internet can connect you to tools that will simplify and enhance your life. Here are some of the best ways to get connected.

Register with Cox.com

First, head to Cox.com and register your User ID and password. This sets you up with your own email address, access to Cox's easy Interactive Bill tool, our online Help/Support library, protection for your computer via McAfee's Security Suite and much, much more. And once you've established your Account Holder ID, you can set up Authorized User accounts and email addresses for everyone in your household (up to nine Authorized Users).

Enjoy Cox Online Tools

As a new Cox High Speed Internet customer, you get the convenience of Webmail, the power of Internet Tools and the peace of mind that comes with Cox's Security Suite powered by McAfee®. The following information can help you learn more about Cox Customer's favorite perks:

Find the Right Browser

Once your Cox.com account is up and running, the whole Internet is available to you. But how do you want to surf it? Your PC likely came with Microsoft Internet Explorer pre-loaded, or maybe you're a Mac user with Safari.

Cox supports both, as well as Mozilla's Firefox browser, which allows add-ons and extensions to enhance your browsing experience. Other browser options include Google's lightweight Chrome and the Opera web browser, by Opera Software. Feel free to download and explore multiple browsers to find one that fits you.

Plug in to "The Cloud"

Increasingly, our information universe is migrating to "the cloud" – the virtual space that isn’t physically on your computer (or tablet, or cell phone), but to which your devices are always connected. Services like Spotify, Pandora, Rhapsody, and Grooveshark stream massive libraries of music from their servers, and are available to users for free or for a low subscription price.

Cox Advanced TV subscribers can access hundreds of hours of television and film content for free through Cox.com with TV Online. Cox has many of the most popular network shows available, many as soon as the day after they air. Additionally, some pay services like Netflix and Hulu are also available if you want to watch more video content. And of course, you can catch up on all the viral video clips on YouTube.

Productivity tools are also migrating to the cloud. Google offers a suite of online tools to Google users, and services like Evernote and Microsoft’s OneNote make it easy to capture notes and sync them across your devices, as well as share them with others. Ever left the grocery list at home? With cloud technology, you can create it on your home computer using Evernote, and then read it on your smart phone app when you hit the store after work.

Work from Home with VPN

The Internet has a lot to offer, but maybe the nicest feature in our world of long commutes and compressed family time is the option of working from home. Virtual Private Networks (VPN) typically require broadband access, and allow authenticated, secure access to your company’s internal network.

Now that you’re active on the Cox network, talk to your boss about the option of working from home. If your job allows and your company makes it available, working from home can save gas, the headache of rush hour and let you start earlier in the day… even in your pajamas.
