"Every child deserves a safe, stable home where he or she can thrive." |
"A Welcome Home" is an award-winning campaign designed to find homes for the many "Special Needs Children" in our community who are waiting to be adopted.
These "Special Needs Children" include children in sibling groups (brothers/sisters), minorities, those with mild to multiple physical and behavioral issues, children born to alcohol or drug-addicted mothers, and all children over the age of five. Cox Communications has teamed up with the Clark County Department of Family Services and Olive Crest to help find these children homes in our community.
- The increased exposure provided by the "A Welcome Home" program has yielded staggering results for the State of Nevada's Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS). DCFS has had to institute new telephone procedures due to the large volume of calls that they now receive.
- "A Welcome Home" has featured 63 children. Forty-one percent of the children profiled have been adopted or are in the process of being adopted!
- When someone is interested in adoption, calling DCFS is the first step. The second - and much larger - step is to attend an adoption orientation. Since A Welcome Home's implementation, DCFS has seen an increase of 95 percent in their adoption orientation attendance.
- "A Welcome Home" received the Adoption Award of Excellence (2005) from the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
