McCollum Receives Community Legends Award

Chesapeake, VA — Gary McCollum, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cox Hampton Roads, was awarded the inaugural Community Legends Award, in the area of “Bigger and Better Business” at the Legends Community Award program.

The program was sponsored by the Gamma Alpha Alpha chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. at the College of William & Mary and was held on November 22, 2008 at the College. Mr. McCollum's daughter, Aurielle McCollum, accepted the award on behalf of her father.

“I am honored to have been considered for this special award. It is important to me personally and to Cox as a company to be involved and engaged in the community and it is especially heart-warming to have received this recognition of my company’s efforts,” said Mr. McCollum.

Renzy Bryant, Chapter President Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. said, “Mr. McCollum was selected for this award because he is among the special few who go beyond what is required and has personally dedicated time and talent to help make a difference in the lives of members within our region.”

Other honorees were Virginia State Senator Yvonne Miller, in the area of Social Action, and Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools Superintendent Gary S. Mathews, Ph.D. in the area of Education.
