Cox Communications Ranked Sixth on the DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity® List

Cox's Workplace Also Ranked Tenth for African-American Employees

Hampton Roads, VA – Cox Communications has announced that its ongoing efforts to continuously improve the inclusiveness of its workplaces as well as its efforts to celebrate diversity have led to great strides with the DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity® List.

"We are delighted that Cox has achieved this major accomplishment – especially with the increasing competition for this prestigious recognition. Everyone at Cox, particularly in the Hampton Roads area, understands that inclusiveness and the promotion of diversity are critical to our ongoing success," said Gary McCollum, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cox Hampton Roads. "To best serve our customers, we must mirror our communities. We are very proud to be a leader among companies making this commitment."

Cox President Pat Esser noted that Cox formed local employee diversity and inclusion councils in each of its operating systems this year. Cox also continued efforts to improve measurement of metrics for diversity which are tied to incentives and worked hard to better communicate Cox's commitment to diversity with both internal and external audiences.

Luke Visconti, partner and co-founder of DiversityInc said, "Cox's big move from No. 25 last year to No. 6 this year underscores the company's commitment to diversity. Cox received a perfect score in our ranking for communicating its diversity message on its web site. The entire leadership of this company is passionate about diversity management and serving their communities."

This is Cox's third year on the list and the second consecutive year in which the company has made significant strides in its ranking. Cox entered the Top 50 in 2006 with a ranking of 32 and rose to 25 in 2007. This also marks Cox's second year among the top company workplaces for African-Americans.

A total of 352 companies participated in The 2008 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity® ranking, up 10 percent from last year and up 100 percent since 2003. Thirteen companies appeared on the list for the first time and 15 companies went up in ranking from last year. Now in its eighth year, The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list is the largest competition of its kind. The list is determined solely from a comprehensive survey that measures CEO commitment, human capital, corporate communications and supplier diversity. Companies on the DiversityInc Top 50 list have clarity of their values of human dignity, demonstrating global adherence to these core beliefs.
