The Cable Industry has adopted a standard for cable modems called DOCSIS. There are many companies producing DOCSIS certified modems. Retailers are offering these standardized modems for sale. Nationwide, most cable systems are in the process of deploying the DOCSIS architecture. As a result, a DOCSIS modem bought for use in our system will have a strong likelihood of compatibility with other cable systems in the future.

With Cox Communications H.S.I. you can connect up to 5 computers into an Ethernet Hub for simultaneous usage. You need to provide the Ethernet hub (available at most computer retail stores), and have it configured along with the Ethernet cards for all workstations/computers over the first one. Cox Communications will supply the necessary additional dynamic IP addresses that will allow simultaneous access.
The cost of additional IP addresses for simultaneous usage by networked PCs is $6.95 plus fees per additional dynamic IP address. This provides a cost-effective way to connect multiple computers in the same house without having to pay another full monthly rate. The multiple computers share the same primary account (which includes a total of 5 users and 3 email addresses-one is assigned and non-changeable and the other 2 are user designated).
Customer must provide and connect their own Ethernet Hub. Technical support beyond the primary connection will not be provided for your network.
1. One cable modem can support up to 5 computers. Cox Communications will provide additional dynamic IP addresses at $6.95 plus fees per month.
2. If you do not want to purchase additional dynamic IP addresses, you may still connect your computers to one cable modem via an Ethernet Hub, however you will only be able to access the service one computer at a time.

While security is a concern for many current Internet users, all data passing through the H.S.I. modem is encrypted. Any transaction conducted over the H.S.I. service will be equally secured to those handled over your existing service provider - H.S.I. is just a lot faster. We do advise our customers to use all common sense precautions when using credit cards for electronic commerce - just as you would with any other form of credit cards purchasing.
No. Every byte of data H.S.I. sends to its cable modems is encrypted with the widely-used DES encryption algorithm designed by the U.S. government.
Any data sent from your computer to the Internet is also encrypted, and none is ever sent to other H.S.I. cable modems in your neighborhood.
However, as with any Internet account, data sent from your computer could be intercepted once it leaves H.S.I. We always recommend that our customers take care when sending any sensitive information by e-mail, and always make sure that you are using a `secure' form to submit credit card information. Check your Web browser's documentation for more information about secure forms.
Unfortunately, viruses are a fact of life in today's computing environment. Cox's H.S.I. service is neither more nor less susceptible to computer viruses or their transmission than any other service. To protect against the possibility of a virus, there are a number of free anti-virus software samples available on the Internet. Cox's H.S.I. customers can access and download one of the programs at high speeds without incurring any time charges.
