Biography
Kate Snow is a congressional correspondent for CNN based in the network’s Washington, D.C., bureau. Named to this position in January 2001, she was previously a general assignment correspondent with CNN. In that role, she covered the legal battle for the presidential election, the 2000 campaign, issues before the U.S. Congress and the Elian Gonzalez story.
Snow formerly served as a correspondent for CNN Newsource, where she reported from Albania and Macedonia during the Kosovo conflict, covering the refugee crisis as ethnic Albanians flooded out of their homeland.
Prior to joining CNN Newsource in August 1998, Snow served as a reporter and anchor for KOAT-TV in Albuquerque, N.M. A producer for CNN in Atlanta from 1993-1995, Snow also worked with National Public Radio and NBC Radio, where she covered the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
Snow earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from Cornell University and a master’s degree in foreign service from Georgetown University.
Job Description
A correspondent is responsible for gathering the details of a story and combining it into an on-air news package. First, the correspondent sets up interviews with major players in the news and then writes a news package using video and sound bites. A news package consists of a live-shot at the beginning and end, with a 1-2 min. segment between that explains the news story.
