now with PowerBoost

What is PowerBoost?

PowerBoost is a new speed enhancement technology that gives a burst of speed when a customer downloads a large file. PowerBoost works by automatically utilizing additional capacity on Cox’s local network to give customers a short speed burst above and beyond their normal speed.

How much does PowerBoost cost?

PowerBoost is free! PowerBoost will automatically be activated at no additional charge for all Premier and Preferred customers.

How fast is Power Boost?

When extra bandwidth is available on Cox’s local network, a customer will experience a faster download. Speeds will be boosted up to 33% faster for both Preferred & Premier Tier customers.

Why is PowerBoost not available to Value and Economy customers?

The Value and Economy services are intended for basic web surfing, not downloading large files such as music, videos and games. When a Value or Economy account is upgraded to Preferred or Premier service, PowerBoost will automatically be added at no additional charge.

How many PowerBoosts are available in a day, week or month?

There is no limit on the number of PowerBoosts you can receive. PowerBoosts will be granted as often as you download a large file and there is extra network capacity available.

How long does each PowerBoost last?

Each PowerBoost lasts for a few seconds. Basically, a PowerBoost will jumpstart a large file download and automatically reduce the overall download time up to 33%. Actual speeds vary depending on file size and other factors.

How will I know that I have experienced a PowerBoost?

There are no on-screen indicators when a PowerBoost is taking place. But you should notice a shorter download time when downloading a large file, such as software, games, music and photos.

Will PowerBoost slow down my normal high-speed Internet speeds as more people get PowerBoost?

No. PowerBoost works by only utilizing additional capacity on Cox’s network to give you a short “boost” above and beyond your normal speeds. The availability of PowerBoost depends on the availability of extra bandwidth on the network at the moment you start a large download. Cox’s network group continually monitors bandwidth needs and will increase capacity as required to ensure that customers are receiving the speed and quality they expect.

Is PowerBoost available to multiple computers within the house (via home networking)?

Yes. PowerBoost is available to up to four computers networked in the home. However, only one computer can experience a PowerBoost at any given time.

Do I need any special hardware or software to experience the PowerBoost?

No. The only requirement is that you are a Cox High Speed Internet Preferred or Premier customer with a Cox Approved cable modem.

Are all cable modems capable of receiving PowerBoosts?

All modems on Cox’s current approved modem list are capable of receiving PowerBoosts. For a complete list of approved modems, visit support.cox.com. DOCSIS cable modems 1.1 and higher are capable of receiving PowerBoosts, regardless of cable modem type.
