Cox Communications Sending Tucson Teen
To Washington, D.C., for Teen Internet Safety Summit

TUCSON—Cox Communications is sending Tucson High School student Annie Newton to Washington, D.C., to take part in the National Teen Summit on Internet Safety.

Newton will join other teen leaders from across the country for the third annual Summit this July. They will participate in seminars about Internet safety and discussions led by TV host/children's advocate John Walsh. The teen summit leaders will also meet on Capitol Hill with members of Congress. The summit will air on Arizona's Cox 7 in late summer.

Newton, 17, was nominated by Tucson High’s Student Council sponsor. Newton will be a senior in the fall and will serve as the student body vice president. She has been involved with student council since the 6th grade. Last year she was elected president of the junior class. She hopes to attend Howard University.

Newton said she wants to present what she learns to the faculty at Tucson High. She also hopes that the student council can work with the computer and technical education teachers in the coming year to spread more information about Internet safety to her peers, and especially younger students.
