Cox employees award $375,000 to Valley charities
More than two million dollars has been donated in
Arizona since 1996

PHOENIX – Today the employees of Cox Arizona donated $375,000 to 55 Valley charities. That’s an increase of $20,000 from last year, despite the economy, raised through employee-driven fundraisers and personal contributions throughout the year. Since its inception in 1996 Cox Charities has raised more than $2 million for the communities in which Cox Communications Arizona operates. It awards grants on an annual basis to Arizona non-profit organizations with a focus on youth and education.

Among the grant recipients this year is Homeward Bound, who received a $4,000 grant for an after school youth development program. The programs offered at Homeward Bound give homeless families a second chance to get back on their feet.

“We are deeply appreciative of Cox Charities support over the years, said Dawn Bogart, director of development for Homeward Bound. “Thanks to [Cox], homeless and domestic violence children continue to receive the basic programs they need to survive and thrive.” The money from Cox employees will help fund an after school youth development program. According to Bogart, 73 percent of participants are under 13 years of age.

Another recipient, Gabriel’s Angel’s is receiving a $5,000 grant. Gabriel’s Angel’s provides pet therapy to at-risk youth. They believe that the bond between a therapy dog and a child is strong enough to break the cycle of violence.

“The grant from Cox will help us provide pet therapy to over 125 abused, neglected and at-risk Valley children living in crisis nurseries, domestic violence shelters and group homes, said Zee Peters, Gabriel’s Angels development director.
