"Brainstorm" returns to Cox 7 for second season
54 high school teams compete to see who's the smartest

PHOENIX – Building on its success from last season, the high school academic quiz show, “Brainstorm” enters its second season on Cox 7. Contestants from 54 schools across central and southern Arizona square off to see who’s the smartest.

Brainstorm was such a hit with parents and students last year that this year Cox has doubled the number of episodes that will air from 20 to 40. A new episode of Brainstorm airs on Cox 7 every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. with replays on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m.

Each of the 54 academic teams will compete twice, their scores will be added and then the nine teams with the highest scores will move to the semifinals. The championship round will air June 18 on Cox 7.

Brainstorm contestants each receive a congratulatory letter from President George W. Bush. The champions each receive new laptops, $500 in Cox Digital Dollars and a $1,000 grant from Cox to benefit their school. Cox will also reward the coach of the championship team with a digital communications gift pack including items like an iPod, DVDs and CDs.

“We’re thrilled to offer Brainstorm on Cox 7 this year because Cox Communications is committed to supporting high school students both in the classroom and on the field. We are very proud of the great academic achievers our Arizona high schools produce and Brainstorm gives them a place to shine,” said Ivan Johnson, vice president of community relations and televideo for Cox Arizona.

Content and format for Brainstorm are based on the national “It’s Academic” quiz show, which began 47 years ago and holds the Guinness World Record for the longest running TV quiz show. Learn more about Brainstorm by visiting www.cox7.com.

Arizona was still a territory in 1892 when it was mentioned in a story about what fictional detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle? The answer is Sherlock Holmes.
