Cox Communications and local anti-meth coalition team up to fight teen meth use with launch of TV show and Web site

PHOENIX – Hundreds of high school students from around the Valley will converge on the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts to hear the true stories of three teenagers whose lives were dramatically impacted by their use of methamphetamine. The stories will be revealed in a one hour documentary on a huge screen TV inside the Virginia G. Piper Theater on Nov. 28 from 9:30 – 11 a.m. It's open to the public.

Cox Communications and the Northeast Valley Coalition Against Methamphetamine will host an exclusive premier of "My Voice, My Choice: Just Once" a TV show about three teens; one who got addicted to meth and landed in jail on possession charges; another who was blinded in the explosion of a homemade lab he was using to make the drug and another who, from her first use of methamphetamines, admits she could not control her use of the drug.

"Cox is proud to premier this show to students from around the Valley just hours before it debuts on Cox7. At Cox, we have a history of supporting healthy lifestyles for teenagers, and this program is a very powerful drug deterrent," says Ivan Johnson, vice president of community relations and televideo for Cox Arizona.

Though the three teens whose stories are revealed in My Voice, My Choice: Just Once are not from Arizona (that part of the show was produced in Atlanta), the TV show also features interviews with students from the Scottsdale Unified School District’s Arcadia High School, interviews with students from the state’s youth advisory council, as well as Arizona experts on methamphetamines - since the second half of the show was taped here in the Valley.

To learn more about My Voice, My Choice: Just Once or to check show times and dates visit www.cox7.com. A new Web site will also debut on this day solely devoted to the dangers of methamphetamines and with tips on how to get help at www.connectwithkids.com/Justonce. (Note: the Web site will not go live until the day of the summit.)
