Cox's Own Receives Prestigious Humanitarian Award
Employee "Stands Up" for Arizona's homeless youth, honored for community service
PHOENIX – A Cox employee will be honored at the Valle del Sol’s 17th annual Profiles of Success Hispanic Leadership Awards on Sept. 7th at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix. The awards ceremony recognizes the achievements and contributions of Latino leaders in Arizona and launches National Hispanic Heritage Month in the state.
Delma Herrera, director of retail sales for Cox Communications, will be presented with the prestigious Rosa Carrillo Torres Humanitarian Award during the annual Valle del Sol event. More than 1,700 people are expected to attend.
"We are very proud of Delma for her commitment to the community and for her leadership role in Stand Up For Kids," says Steve Rizley, vice president and general manager of Cox Communications, Arizona. “We are very pleased to see her receive recognition for her efforts.”
Herrera has been an active leader in Stand Up For Kids, a national non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to preventing and resolving youth homelessness. Born in Mexico, Herrera and her family immigrated to the United States to find better opportunities and achieve the “American Dream.” Experiencing firsthand what it is like to grow up poor, hungry, and not knowing English, Herrera knew that hard work, ethics, and determination were the answers to succeeding in life.
Herrera devotes countless hours to Stand Up For Kids, where she enjoys volunteering with this organization and finds it to be inspiring and motivating. Currently, she serves as the Stand Up For Kids Board’s director of training and adult education.
A resident of Mesa, Herrera continually seeks to stay involved in other community initiatives and teaches her four children the importance of giving back to the community.
