Cox Arizona launches 2007 Green Initiative to support our environment

PHOENIX – Cox Communications is taking steps to support a healthy environment with the launch of its 2007 Green Initiative. This is a statewide campaign to support and enhance the environment in the communities Cox serves throughout Arizona, including Phoenix and Tucson.

The Cox efforts to be more environmentally friendly will encompass changes to the Cox fleet of cars and vehicles and to Cox facilities around the state and will include:
  • Water conservation and other means of environmentally friendly compliances
  • Energy efficiency and alternative source of energy technologies
  • Incrementally replacing all small-to-mid size vehicles with fuel efficient technology – switching to hybrid model vehicles with a fuel efficiency of at least 35 – 38 miles per gallon
  • Incorporate a global positioning system (GPS) into new vehicles for reduced fuel costs associated with dispatching Cox customer response vehicles
"The Cox 2007 Green Initiative is not just something we are talking about; it's something we are doing at Cox Arizona. We want our employees and customers to know we care about the environment and giving back, and we are making changes inside and out to prove it," says Steve Rizley, vice president and region manager of Cox Arizona.

In order to cut back on energy use throughout our buildings in Arizona, Cox will introduce the latest in solar energy technologies as an alternative source of power. Cox will also seek to improve our buildings with energy efficient equipment and lighting, with an anticipated annual savings to Cox Arizona of more than $1 million.

"In Arizona, we are going to maximize the use of the 'smart car' for all supervisors, leadership and management so we can conduct our daily business efforts in an environmentally friendly manner," says Ivan Johnson, vice president of community relations and televideo for Cox Arizona.

Note to media: Media is invited to drive the smart car, live shot opportunities available. Cox's 'green' experts are available for interviews by contacting media relations team at (623) 328-3267.
