My Voice, My Choice: Shattered
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, every 30 minutes someone dies in an alcohol related crash and young drivers between 15 and 20 years-old are more often involved in these crashes than any other age group.

In an effort to prevent such tragedies from occurring in Arizona, Cox and the Connecting with Kids network joined together to educate students on the dangers of drinking and driving through My Voice. My Choice: Shattered. Cox premiered the program to students at a local high school and at a SADD conference. At each premier event, Cox held an open forum discussion with an expert panel about the program. Cox filmed student questions and the panel discussion and included this footage in a special one-hour program, which premiered on Cox7-AZ. The program also utilized Cox’s Interactive technology and asked viewers to answer questions with their remote.

My Voice, My Choice: Caught in the Web
The growing popularity of social networking sites like MySpace and Friendster are making teens more susceptible to online predators than ever before.

A recent survey from Cox Communications in partnership with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) revealed that many teens are not as cyber smart as their parents and guardians may think.

Consider these statistics:
  • A large majority of teens (71%) have established online profiles on social networking sites such as MySpace, up from 61% in 2006.
  • 69% of teens regularly receive personal messages online from people they don’t know and most don’t tell a trusted adult.
  • Females are far more likely than male teens to post personal photos or videos of themselves (70% vs. 58%).
In an effort to educate Arizona youth about the dangers of the Internet, Cox in partnership with Connecting with Kids Network joined together to create an educational outreach initiative titled My Voice. My Choice: “Caught in the Web.” The initiative empowers students to make good decisions by creating a common dialogue with each other, educators and parents.

“Caught in the Web” is the true story of a 13 year-old girl, Kylie Taylor, who met a 47 year-old man online. At first, they communicated only online, then they started talking to each other on the phone and finally they agreed to meet in person. When they met, Kylie was abducted, raped repeatedly and locked in a basement. “Caught in the Web” features interviews with Kylie Taylor, law enforcement officials and online predators who are serving time in prison. My Voice. My Choice: “Caught in the Web” premiered on Cox7-AZ and featured interviews with local students from Arizona high schools.
