Take Charge!

Take Charge is a website created by Cox Communications with the partnership of the National Center for Missing or Exploited Children (NCMEC) designed to educate parents on internet safety. The website focuses primarily on keeping kids safe while chatting, IMing and surfing the web. It has information about the dangers of the internet and includes tips and guides for keeping both kids and adults protected from online predators as well as identity thieves. The website even offers facts and statistics about teen internet usage and even offers parental control software to help parents set limitations on the amount of access their children have to various websites. Cox Hosts 2nd annual Teen Internet Safety Summit

Cox recently hosted the second annual National Teen Summit on Internet Safety in Washington, DC. Fourteen students from across the nation came together to discuss teen internet safety in a summit hosted by Cox Communications and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). These students are leaders in their communities and were chosen to attend this summit because of their advocacy for teen internet safety. At the summit, students addressed issues such as teen activity on the Internet, the potential risks of Internet use, and what adults can do to make the Internet safer for their children. They also addressed a recent survey on Internet safety conducted by Cox and NCMEC. In addition to the discussions, the students were able to meet John Walsh of America’s Most Wanted, Miss America 2007 Lauren Nelson as well as Senators and Representatives from their states.
