Employee Volunteerism: Cox Connects Day
The annual Cox Connects Day helps Cox employees give back to their local Boys & Girls Clubs. Cox Arizona has a history of supporting the local Boys & Girls Clubs and this day of volunteerism is a great extension of our partnership.
The Arizona Alliance of the Boys & Girls Club Techathalon event was designed to help youth in our communities gain technical fluency by providing a fun venue for them to showcase and build their technology skills through hands-on team based competitions! Cox employees volunteered to help with a number of the activities including judging the technology competition, assisting with the distribution of lunches, and supervising a booth at the Exploratorium. Cox volunteers also staffed the registration table, helped with event set-up and snapped photos of the participants. Boys and Girls Club members from around the state participate in the event.
Cable In The Classroom
In support of Cable in the Classroom, a public service of the cable industry, Cox Communications provides complimentary cable connections to over 600 K-12 schools throughout Arizona as well as a $1,000 technology grant to each school to help offset the cost of installation. Through Cox’s commitment, Cable in the Classroom provides access to 500+ hours of educational programming per month, provided by more than 30 cable networks such as the Discovery Channel, A&E, The History Channel and the Weather Channel. The programming provided each month is commercial-free and is geared to provide teachers lively curriculum-rich resources to inspire learning.
In addition to the complimentary service, every school receives a courtesy subscription to “Cable in the Classroom” magazine. The monthly guide to cable’s educational resources. This magazine is a great resource for K-12 educators, school library media specialists, and parents. Each issue features creative, practical ideas for teaching with multimedia, along with guides to educational video programs and Web sites. Cox Communications also offers a training presentation or on-site training upon request.
