Industry Support

Cox is an active supporter of various organizations devoted to diversity, people development and related causes in the broadband cable and telecommunications industry. In addition to the company's financial support of these organizations, Cox employees are actively involved in leadership roles within the organizations, guiding the growth of the groups and the success of their respective missions, and taking advantage of the numerous developmental opportunities they offer. Among the groups are:

Cable Positive

Cable Positive is a non-profit organization dedicated to unifying the talents, resources, access and influence of the communications industry to raise AIDS awareness; to fund AIDS education, research and care; and to promote a more compassionate climate for people whose lives have been affected by HIV and AIDS. It was founded in February 1992 by three concerned cable executives, and has since grown to include supporters from every major network, cable operator, cable system, hardware manufacturer, trade association, media publication, and affiliated industry vendors and suppliers. Emma L. Bowen Foundation

Cox Communications is a partner company in The Emma L. Bowen Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to increase minority students’ access to job opportunities in media companies. The Foundation places students in multi-year summer internships, starting as early as the end of their junior year in high school. During a period of up to five summers, participants learn many aspects of corporate operations and develop company-specific skills, with the option of permanent placement upon graduation from college. The National Association of Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC)

With membership of more than 1,000 professionals in 16 chapters nationwide, NAMIC focuses on educating the industry on marketing approaches, programming interests and operations strategies for our nation's ever-changing population, and guides industry understanding of these complex issues. The Walter Kaitz Foundation

The Walter Kaitz Foundation, named in honor of a leader of the California Cable Television Association, was established to promote diversity within the cable industry. Initially, the Foundation provided fellowship opportunities to professionals of diverse ethnic backgrounds seeking to transition into cable. The Foundation recently adopted a more comprehensive program focus. Its expanded approach includes designing a grant-awarding program, enhancing the industry’s supplier program, creating a Job Bank, and strengthening ties within our nation’s diverse communities. Women in Cable &Telecommunications (WICT)

Developing women leaders is the mission of this organization. As the oldest and largest organization serving women professionals in cable and telecommunications, WICT is steadfast in its resolve to advance the position and influence of women through proven leadership programs and services. Founded in 1979, its membership today is more than 5,000 professionals in 22 chapters nationwide. More information at www.wict.org.

In addition, Cox employees are involved in numerous other vital industry organizations that foster the growth, development and advancement of professionals and their professions. Among those are National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), Cable Television Public Affairs Association (CTPAA), Society of Cable Television Engineers (SCTE), and Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM), as well as numerous state cable and telecommunications associations.
