| ATLANTA – The Atlanta Chapter of NAMIC (National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications) celebrated
25 years of service to the cable and telecommunications industries during a June 28 ceremony. To mark the occasion, the organization honored Mae
Douglas, Cox Communications’ Senior
Vice President and Chief People Officer, with its first-ever Pioneer Award.
Douglas, a NAMIC vice president and member of the organization’s national board of directors, has been a tireless supporter and a widely recognized
contributor to its success. A member of the cable industry since 1995, Douglas has worked diligently to increase awareness, membership and support
for NAMIC within the operations of cable companies and cable programmers.
In addition to her most recent honor, Douglas’ success and contributions within the industry have also earned her accolades from Women in Cable
and Telecommunications and Multichannel News.
“Mae is the embodiment of NAMIC’s 25th anniversary theme, ‘Changing Minds, Cultivating Leaders,’” said NAMIC Executive
Vice President Kathy Johnson. “It is a privilege to join the NAMIC-Atlanta chapter in honoring her.”
The ceremony also featured SCLC co-founder and past president, Dr. Joseph E. Lowery. Dr. Lowery encouraged the audience of cable industry professionals
to assume their roles as “chaplains of the common good” and continue to advance the cause of diversity within their companies and their
communities.
Douglas joined Cox Communications’ advertising sales division (CableRep), in 1995 as Manager of Employee Relations and was promoted to Director
of Employee Relations in 1998. She was promoted to Regional Vice President of Ad Sales for CableRep in 1999 Douglas was named Senior Vice President
and Chief People Officer of Cox Communications in 2000.
